On February 2, 1804, a silver medal of Our Lady of Guadalupe was placed in the hands of Julie Billiart—now Saint Julie—on the day she founded the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur.

That original mold survived 220 years. Your medal is cast from it.

In Mexico City, master silversmiths created these medals during a significant year in Catholic history. While Napoleon crowned himself Emperor, faithful Catholics turned to La Morenita for protection.

The Fathers of the Faith—priests close to Pope Pius VII—chose these Guadalupe medals for their sacred purpose: the founding vows of a new religious order.

The Original Image

The image of Our Lady of Guadalupe appeared on Juan Diego's tilma in 1531. For centuries, Catholics have turned to this image in times of crisis.

In 1804, Mexican silversmiths captured every detail of La Morenita in a mold of extraordinary precision. On the reverse: "Non fecit taliter omni nationi"—He has not done this for any other nation.

The same inscription Pope Benedict XIV proclaimed in 1754 when he declared Guadalupe's unique protection over the Americas.
