Two small medals sit side by side just below the collarbone. This 14K solid gold scapular necklace carries the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Our Lady of Mount Carmel on a short chain that adjusts to 16 or 18 inches, made to be worn every day, under a collar or on its own. It is a quiet sign of a promise: to belong to Mary and to keep close to the Heart of her Son.
About the Design
Two small rectangular medals in solid 14K yellow gold hang at the front of a fine flat cable chain, fixed 0.8 inches apart so they always sit evenly at the neckline. Each medal is double-sided, with the Sacred Heart of Jesus on one face and Our Lady of Mount Carmel holding the Child Jesus on the other. The matte finish on the medals softens the light and lets the relief read clearly, while the bright chain adds a little sparkle around it. The chain closes with a spring ring clasp and a tag stamped 14K.
Wear the same chain at 16 inches, close to the base of the neck, or at 18 inches, slightly lower, so you can choose the fit each day. For a longer chain worn at the chest, see the other pieces in our Gold Scapular Collection.
About the Devotion
The Brown Scapular is one of the oldest Marian devotions in the Church. Carmelite tradition holds that in 1251 Our Lady appeared to Saint Simon Stock, prior general of the Carmelite Order, and gave him the scapular as a sign of her protection. Wearing it expresses consecration to Mary and a commitment to imitate her virtues. The Church cautions that it is a sign of faith, never a lucky charm, and that it points to a life of prayer, the sacraments, and fidelity to the Gospel.
In 1910, Pope Saint Pius X permitted the faithful enrolled in the cloth scapular to wear a medal in its place. The medal must carry the Sacred Heart of Jesus on one side and an image of the Blessed Virgin Mary on the other, the same pairing found on each medal of this necklace. The devotion to the Sacred Heart itself was made known through the revelations to Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque at Paray-le-Monial in the 1670s.

Care Instructions
Solid 14K gold does not tarnish and can be worn every day. To protect the matte texture, clean the medals with warm water, mild soap, and a soft brush, then dry with a soft cloth. Avoid polishing cloths, as they can burnish the matte surface to a shine. Remove the necklace before swimming in chlorinated water or using household chemicals, and store it in its box so the fine chain does not tangle.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can this necklace be worn in place of the cloth Brown Scapular?
Yes, for those already enrolled in the Brown Scapular. Since 1910, the Church has permitted a medal with the Sacred Heart of Jesus on one side and Our Lady on the other to replace the cloth scapular. Each medal on this necklace carries both images. Enrollment is always done with the cloth scapular, and a priest or deacon must then bless the medal. The cloth scapular remains the preferred form.
Is this necklace blessed?
No. Our pieces are not sold blessed. Any priest or deacon can bless it for you, often right after Mass.
How is this different from your other gold scapular necklaces?
This necklace sits on the collarbone. It is crafted in 14K solid gold on a short chain that adjusts to 16 or 18 inches, with both medals fixed side by side at the front. Our other gold scapular necklaces are made in 18K gold on longer 24-inch chains that rest at the chest.
Is the length adjustable?
Yes. You can wear the same chain at 16 inches, at the base of the neck near the collarbone, or at 18 inches, slightly lower. Both medals stay centered at the front at either length.
Is this solid gold or gold-filled?
Solid 14K gold. The medals and the chain are both 14K solid yellow gold, and the clasp tag is stamped 14K. It is not plated or gold-filled.
Where is this necklace made? A fine gold jewelry manufacturer in Turkey makes it and imports it to the United States.
