About the Design

About the Devotion

The Brown Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is one of the most beloved sacramentals of the Church. Carmelite tradition holds that Our Lady gave the scapular to Saint Simon Stock, an English Carmelite, in 1251. The Church celebrates Our Lady of Mount Carmel on July 16. The original scapular is two small panels of brown wool joined by cords and worn over the shoulders, and a priest enrolls the faithful in it with a short rite.

The Sacred Heart of Jesus represents the love of Christ for every person. The modern devotion grew from the revelations received by Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque, a Visitation nun at Paray-le-Monial, France, beginning in 1673.

This necklace uses two separate medals, so it serves as a devotional reminder rather than the approved substitute.
